Some people are sometimes confused why we read The Economist. We are confused why these people don’t. The Economist is where we draw some of our greatest inspiration. Who else but The Economist can take copy that is at least 60% basic summary and make it sound like authoritative and indispensable reporting? And, like The Bupkes, all without bylines — so who’s to say whether it’s a well-sourced veteran writer behind those words or the summer intern?
The Economist has mastered the art of turning very little into a lot. Bravissimo! We wish we could be so successful.
In a similar vein, The Economist has really perfected the ability to make profundity out of the profoundly stupid. That takes real skill, and we envy it.
The Economist’s endorsement of Kamala Harris for US president is a wonderful example. We really recommend you read it. One passage jumped out at us in particular.
